the feeling of sand between your toes

I love the idea of throwing on some vintage mens swim trunks on a hot summer day. They seem like they'd be quite breezy no? I would pair them with worn out striped sweatshirts, blousy button downs, and white converses.

While I'm planning on hitting up some of the second hand stores to find my version of this look, you can buy the fabulous shorts featured in these photos at strong boalt.

Land Before Time

There's a lot of my favorite elements in this look- Blazers, button downs, and a striped skirt. but none of that compares to the amazing DINOSAUR PINS. What an incredible way to add some whimsy to an outfit, while playing on the academic, prep-school heritage of the blazer.

I dislike leather shorts- too trendy. But these white shirts are just too perfect not to share.

Levis

These are the most perfectly distressed jeans. Distressed jeans span the gap between the classic pieces and the hippy dippy look. I think the best part about these jeans is the stitching to reinforce around the pockets.

I stopped by one of my favorite bookstores in San Francisco and stayed a while to peruse their wide selection of international fashion magazines. I was really blown away by Vogue Australia. I know many other bloggers have been on to the energy in australia for a while now, so I'm not exactly the first one to pick up on the awesomeness across the ocean. But I was really quite inspired by the hippy beach style showcased in the March 2010 magazine

I've been drifting in this direction for a little while now- I love my minimalist wardrobe (makes packing so easy!) but sometimes it can get a little too serious. Adding hippie pieces with a taste of wanderlust adds some fun back to the outfit.

When I got home I saw a link that one of my friends had forwarded me, and christine, the girl behind christeric, would have fit right into the March copy of AV. She has some more grungy looks, but the ones that really resonated with me showcased her take on the bohemian look.

love a llama llama

Wouldn't this peruvian bag look great with my summer uniform of cut-off jeans and a white button downs? Less than 20 bucks at La Llama Place.

Alex Wang at Home

Alex Wang at Home. As I am about to move into a new apartment, I've been thinking about what I want my space to look like. It's tempting to go crazy with wild, girly colors since isn't that one of the greatest advantages of not having to share a space with a man? But that's not true to my personal aesthetic. I enjoy bright fun colors, but I know that I would feel calm and -- most importantly-- at home with a clean room tied together with beautiful black and white prints.

While I'm looking at flights...

This seems like the ideal vacation spot. I can imagine reading a book in the grass, going into the pool to cool off, and in the evenings drinking multo vino by candlelight

laissez bon temps roulez

Admission: I am a sucker for old southern cities. Savannah, Charlotte, you name it. The romance of the moss and the calm from the heat is hard to beat.

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to go to New Orleans for a week. It was absolutely phenomenal. I know this phrase has been said far too often, but I completely fell in love with the city. It is truly a stylish city- from the old (The beautiful houses in the blocks north/east of jackson square, the regal beauties uptown) to the new (Make it Right in the 9th ward).

Seeing Karen's photos has made me want to see when the next available flight is.

Dan Martensen is a genius photographer. He shows a wide range in his work- everything from the wild power of a new york hipster party, to the calm, idle energy of a mellow day in california. I was suprised to read in his bio that he's from new york, because his photos sshow such an understanding of the beach culture.... Waking up early to surf before the wind picks up, then bumming around on long boards.

Senor Lopez

Senor Lopez Baja Sweater. This would be to toss on over your denim shorts on cold summer nights. You may associate this sweater with the stoner from high school eating frozen taquitos. But the "heritage" of this sweater is exactly part of it's appeal. It adds an unexpected funky touch that keeps simple outfits from becoming overly antiseptic.

For me it brings back sweet memories of high school bonfires on the beach, smoking on summer nights, and trips to baja.

Out in the Street

This is perfect summer dressing. White shirt, classic blue denim. The accessories add a subtle kick- the round tortoiseshell sunglasses and that perfect wide brown belt.

Didion

I've spend the last week pulling long nights in the library, preparing for my finals. But catching up in one of my english class hardly felt like work- I was able to read several of Joan Didion's novels. She has quickly become one of my favorite writers, but I was happily suprised to see that her person is as stylish as her prose.

blonde ambition

love her hair. I try to imagine that this is what my hair looks like when it air dries, but normally mine develops these weird dreadlock twists if I don't brush it. hmm...
