Caroline Issa
Jealousy is an ugly emotion, but the more I learn about Caroline Issa, the harder it is to curb my emotions. She has a totally banging wardrobe filled with the most amazing coats, and has the best collection of lipsticks.
But she's also one smart cookie. She studied business at penn, then went into strategic management consulting working with fashion retailers and consumer brand companies. After her foray into retailing she switched over to tank magazine where she whipped the business into shape while contributing her strong sense of style.

The Joys of Life in NYC
My preferred mode of travel is walking- it allows you to see so much more, and even better to understand how the pieces fit together, how one neighborhood flows into another. I feel like when I take the subway the city becomes broken up into discreet independent neighborhoods, losing the diversity of new york.

But the one advantage of the subway is the people watching. Last week I got quite excited when Virginia Smith was standing beside me, sweating it out with the rest of the masses, waiting for the A train downtown.
Her outfit was about the opposite of a fashion victim. She was wearing baggy cut off chinos, simple black ballet flats and a grey t shirt (looked like it was from the row). Now that's not to say she was completely devoid of designer goods- she was carrying a giant hermes duffel and a on-trend small structured grey shoulder bag, possibly this season's chloe.
When I got back to my room I began perusing the web and found that this seems to be her signature style- choosing pants instead of skirts, worn loose and relaxed, never tight.

P.s. looks like I'm not the only one to have a virginia smith run-in on the subway (and yes, this is almost exactly what she was wearing when I saw her, but summer-ized)

Big city girl
As the past posts may demonstrate, I am a beach baby. Californian born and raised, the summertime to me means long days wandering in and out of the house, barefoot, when swimsuits are the only undergarmets you need.
But this summer I'm in the big apple so changes are necessary. I've traded in the skateboard for the subway.

This girl has taken the laid back beach vibes to the city. Its the opposite of fussy, and totally appropriate for pounding the sidewalks.

the feeling of sand between your toes

I love the idea of throwing on some vintage mens swim trunks on a hot summer day. They seem like they'd be quite breezy no? I would pair them with worn out striped sweatshirts, blousy button downs, and white converses.
While I'm planning on hitting up some of the second hand stores to find my version of this look, you can buy the fabulous shorts featured in these photos at strong boalt.

Land Before Time

There's a lot of my favorite elements in this look- Blazers, button downs, and a striped skirt. but none of that compares to the amazing DINOSAUR PINS. What an incredible way to add some whimsy to an outfit, while playing on the academic, prep-school heritage of the blazer.
