Out in the Street

This is perfect summer dressing. White shirt, classic blue denim. The accessories add a subtle kick- the round tortoiseshell sunglasses and that perfect wide brown belt.

Didion

I've spend the last week pulling long nights in the library, preparing for my finals. But catching up in one of my english class hardly felt like work- I was able to read several of Joan Didion's novels. She has quickly become one of my favorite writers, but I was happily suprised to see that her person is as stylish as her prose.

love her hair. I try to imagine that this is what my hair looks like when it air dries, but normally mine develops these weird dreadlock twists if I don't brush it. hmm...

I've been sporting a classic red on my nails for the majority of this winter. The red seems modern in comparison to the blacks/purples that everyone and their mother is wearing.
The red goes great with what has become my uniforms this winter- classic ripped blue jeans, white button-downs, black blazers, slouchy gray sweaters and sailor striped tees.

But looking at all the images coming back from fashion week, it's clear that the same great, bold red would look really really good on my lips as well. I'm a little intimidated by the idea, and am completely clueless at how to pick the right shade, but as soon as I have time I'm going to trot on down to the not-so-close closest department store to evaluate the options.

Teen Vogue Twice

More of the Teen Vogue Team
FW 2010 shows

Update: So after some googling I found out that Joanna Hillman has moved over to Harpers Bazaar where she is working as Senior Fashion Market Editor (the same position she held at Teen Vogue). But as a Teen Vogue Alum, I feel like it's not completely unjust posting her images alongside those of her former co-workers.

How great is this ad? As a lifelong rider I like the equestrian element, but I love the timeless appeal of the rayban sunglasses.

Maya Villiger

I love this post at Maya Villiger's website Turned Out. I feel like it really represents the direction in which I find myself moving- simple, classic. Stripes, denim, black.
And what a great name- who doesn't love croissants and chanel?

By the way, if you haven't checked out her interview on Jack and Jill I rightly recommend it. It is aamazing.

p.s. just for kicks- a video of her!
p.p.s one of the images in her collage I featured in a recent post

“Someone once told me that if you ask a woman What is the favorite thing in your closet?, she’ll pull out her newest dress,” says Jenna Lyons. “If you ask a man, he’ll pull out some tattered old thing he’s had forever. That’s the big difference. And that’s what Andy gets.” Essentially, he understands that men are happy to have their shoes resoled again and again, and that they’d like to buy shoes that deserve it.

Heidi Slimane

While I had some idea that Heidi Slimane photographed, I'd always just seen his fashion stuff. I've just been looking through his photo diary and I was really blown away. This guy is good.

Help!!

I have now watched the september issue twice, and I expect that there will be more viewings in the future. While it's hard to say exactly what is my favorite part, I've had trouble getting these photographs in Wintour's office out of my head. Their strong, bold, and equine-friendly! Perfect union of my design philosophy and my lifelong passion (I started riding at age 4). I've tried to track down who the photographer is, but so far no such luck.

So bloggers- any ideas?

nothing but my birthday suit?

I got a trench coat when I was approad, and I've been struggling with how best to wear it around my college campus without appearing like a) a flasher or b) a serial killer. Really though- why is it that everytime a kid comes in and shoots up his high school he's wearing a trench coat?

Ive been inspired by The Sartorialist's project for Burberry but what really sealed the deal was this photo of Emmanuelle Alt and her darling daughter. I've been wearing mine with striped sailor shirts, drapey white alexander wang t's tucked into skinny ripped blue jeans, or a black cashmere v-neck when the rain turned cold.

I'm thinking as long as I keep pairing it with basics and the look will come off as classic, not all-i've-got-under-this-is-my-birthday-suit-and-an-ak-47.

ne plus ultra

attrait intemporel

The page on the left comes from french vogue all the way back in 07. What amazes me is how well it still fits with the current trends. 3 years later, and I would still be happy wearing these looks.
The striped shirt- check.
navy blazer- check.
true blue denim- check. Even the wide legged flares are starting to cycle back in.
But this isn't about cycling in and out- it's about enduring classics that still look as fresh as they did 2+ years ago.
